My first trade show

My first trade showHello, my name is Rae and I am the assistant manager here at Shared Earth (Liverpool) and although I have worked here since 2006 this is my first blog post so here goes..

I wanted to share my experience with you working on my first ever trade show at the Birmingham NEC. Myself and my manager Jen travelled down by train after work on the Wednesday night and booked into our hotel. Luckily it’s only a two minute walk from the station which we were grateful for since we were going to be calling it home for the next 8 nights. I was a little apprehensive as I hadn’t been away from my family this long before and had began worrying how good I would be at promoting our goods as the company depends on the orders taken at the trade show.

However, I needn’t have worried! I soon got the hang of it and it felt more like a great busman’s holiday. It was such a great laugh, from fighting about who’d get the top bunk in our room to finding a kettle in our hotel as the rooms never had any (and god knows we couldn’t survive without our brews). We spent the first couple of days setting up our stand. This was hard work but it looked fabulous by the time we’d finished. It felt like a real achievement, especially battling the arctic February weather as we were doing it thanks to the hanger doors all being open. We worked hard but we had a laugh too and by the end of the show, we appreciated how important that was.

Once the show was open to the public and we got under way, I was shocked by how much my competitive side came through, especially as I thought I’d left that on the playing field with the egg and spoon races of my childhood. I have to finally admit to myself where my son gets it from now but at least in this instant it was an asset. We had the best trade show ever and I am so glad I got to play my part in it. It was great meeting all our wholesale customers. They are all such fun lovely people and I can’t wait to do the next trade show in September to see them all again.

One thing I must remember to do for next time though is lose ½ stone in preparation because the food we had was absolutely amazing. Breakfast is officially my favourite meal of the day thanks to our ‘expense account’.
