TraidcraftWe have been very saddened to hear of Traidcraft’s demise. Traidcraft was our first supplier at Shared Earth in 1986, in fact we ordered every product in their catalogue and Traidcraft products filled 2/3rds of our shop. For the last few years, we have been an important supplier for Traidcraft, supplying Crisil recycled glass, candles, rainbow pottery, solid shampoos, bamboo socks, rag rugs, bird houses, jute bags and many other products. We will be very happy to supply former Traidcraft customers and welcome suggestions as to other products we might stock. We’re also delighted to announce that a few weeks ago we placed our first order with the Holyland Handicrafts Cooperative in Palestine, a former Traidcraft supplier of olive wood crosses and nativities. And recently, we developed an inspiring range of wooden nativities and related products from Asha Handicrafts in India, due in around August. Shared Earth’s CEO Jeremy Piercy is a Quaker, our Supplier Director Yuli Sjahlendra is a practising Catholic; all of us share Traidcraft’s aims of creating a better, fairer world where trade is more equitable and we can all play a part in alleviating poverty and exploitation.
